A major WordPress release is not simply a reminder to click Update. It is a useful deadline for checking whether the website still supports the business processes built around it. WordPress 7.1 is scheduled for August 19, 2026, with its first release candidate expected August 5. That creates a practical window to test before the production site changes.
The goal is not to chase every new feature. It is to identify the pages, plugins, editor routines, and integrations that cannot quietly fail. A short readiness review now costs less than troubleshooting a broken form, checkout, or publishing workflow after launch.
Start with the journeys that create value
List the actions customers and staff depend on: submitting an enquiry, buying a product, booking a call, logging in, publishing an article, updating a landing page, or exporting an order. Test those journeys on a staging copy running the release candidate. Record both the visible result and the downstream event in email, CRM, analytics, or payment systems.
